As the pandemic hit, people found themselves confined to their homes for prolonged periods of time, dealing with the stress of not only quarantining, but also having to work and live from the same shared spaces. Born out of a need to resolve this frustration and restore a work-life balance, Anthony Hodson’s Dzome is a versatile garden office pod offering a moment of reclusion and rest.

Inspired by nature and the Fibonacci sequence’s Golden Ratio, the pod emerges with a curved faceted form shaped by weatherproof steel segments overlapped in a geometric arrangement. Beyond its initial purpose as a cozy office, the small, versatile structure offers unlimited scope for functionality, sitting as a music, gaming, or sleeping pod, or even a peaceful yoga room — each function rooting its user in their natural environment.

Inside each Dzome, Anthony Hodson infuses the space with natural light to foster productivity and relaxation, enhanced by light plywood finishes. The front elevation is completed with expansive double-glazed windows and dome is topped with a peaking skylight. Demonstrating refined construction, the outer interlocking shingles have been manufactured from powder coated galvanized steel to exude an intricate reflective visual quality while withstanding even the harshest of weathers.

The pod’s conceptualisation was developed over four years, and its first prototype was built from a 1:5 scale model in just eight weeks. From design development, to manufacturing, Dzome was created by Hodson himself. Further, all parts, including plywood panels laser cut from a CNC router, were initially prefabricated in the designer’s workshop, and arranged into a kit to shipped and assembled on site.

Dzome has been featured on the television show, ‘George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces’, and over 2023, a limited edition collection of 10 office pods will be available for purchase.
