ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Chris’s Coffee & Custard is officially on wheels and ready to roll.

After numerous months of planning, the shop is ready to hit the streets of the Star City in its new food truck. On Aug. 30, the community gathered to see the new truck and get a taste of their custard.

“When it showed up this morning, I just got all teary-eyed,” said Co-owner Beth Woodrum “It was just so emotional just to see the truck and just to see all of our dreams become a reality.”

But the truck is more than just a new addition to the shop, Beth Woodrum, the co-owner, and mom says getting young adults out in the community and gaining community awareness with them was the goal.

Chris’s Coffee & Custard hires people with special abilities and works to help them improve their social, communication, and job skills. The shop is co-owned by Woodrum and her son Chris who is the Co-owner and has Down Syndrome.

“This is going to open a lot of doors for us to be able to get out into the community and serve the community more,” said Woodrum.

The truck will be debuting at its first event at the Taco Fest in Downtown Roanoke on Sept. 9. To learn more about the shop and its goal, visit the Chris’s Coffee & Custard website.
